Well, the short and simple answer is that:
- a virus is a program that runs on your machine, with the sole intention of doing some damage (like a human virus).
- spyware is a program that runs on your machine, with the sole intention of gathering information (essentially spying on you).
- a trojan is a program that runs on your machine, with the sole intention of allowing someone access to your machine (like the Trojan horse)
